Why
choose the physician staffing business as a career?
- General shortage of physicians and medical professionals in the US
& acute shortage of physicians in certain specialties.
- General preference of physicians to live in urban and suburban parts
of the country versus the rural parts of the country.
- The demand for physicians' services is growing at a steady annual
rate based upon the aging of the citizenry of the United States, technological
developments, ability to purchase healthcare services and human desire
to extend life.
- The supply of physicians is limited and the characteristics of the
pool of candidates are changing.
- Currently over 75% of physicians are male however 40% of physicians
under age 35 are females. More females may translate into more maternity
leaves and more physician staffing opportunities. It also generally
may translate into less chaotic work schedules for females who may attempt
to balance work with family responsibilities. This has historically
been less of an issue with the male physician.
- The emergence of managed care into the healthcare marketplace, increased
regulations, curtailed government service payment reimbursements, curtailed
managed care payer reimbursements and higher medical malpractice insurance
and taxation costs as well as a 20 year bull stock market has created
an environment where more physicians are electing to retire or semi-retire
from the full time practice of medicine. These factors have increased
the pool of candidates available for short and long-term temporary staffing
assignments as well as increased the demand for such physician candidates.
- There are only about 20 National firms in our industry that provide
short and long term temporary physician staffing services.
